‘What a SPLASH’- Swim Carnival highlights

The annual St Helena Swimming Carnival was held at Aquarena on Monday the 26th of February and it was a major success largely due to the amount of participation in swimming events, the Year 12 parade, and the teachers vs students race.

It was great to see all students in their house colours having a great time and competing in many different events. Those students who went above and beyond wearing their house colours were recognised with prizes.

The Year 12 parade is something that the entire college looks forward to at the Swimming carnival and we were not disappointed this year. The costumes were fantastic and the Year 12’s should be commended on the way they conducted themselves at their final swimming carnival – what a terrific job!

The swimming carnival always provides an opportunity for students to support their House with the chance of being crowned the 2018 House Swimming champions. The entire house competition came down to the last event of the day, the Year 12 Diving/Bombing competition, proving that you don’t need to be a fantastic athlete to earn points for your own house. There was plenty of competition throughout the day, there were stand out performances, new records set, but this year there was only one winner…

…Congratulations to Jackman on winning the 2018 Swimming Carnival!

Jackman’s victory was well deserved as they only just narrowly edged out Freeman and Banjo by 2 points and 9 points respectively.

1st Jackman – 361 points
2nd Freeman – 359 points
3rd Banjo – 352 points
4th Stynes – 258 points

This year we had two teacher’s teams compete in a 4 x 50m freestyle relay, with six student teams across all year levels competing for the chance to beat the teachers. A big congratulation to Tom Mason, Jarryd Cripps, Jack Briggs and Julian Marriott who came 1st, just ahead of a teacher’s team made up of Mr Moloney, Mr Braknys, Mr Blakis and Mr Anderson. Will the students win the Athletics relay race as well? We shall find out soon!
