We are extremely excited to announce that Ross Wignell will be returning as Head Coach for St Helena Secondary College’s 2023 Basketball Academy.

In 2019 we launched the Basketball Academy program in partnership with Ross Wignell. He has continued in this role, and we look forward to utilising his expertise in 2023. Ross has been the catalyst behind the program and his extensive coaching experience has been extremely valued by our athletes. Our athletes speak very highly of Ross, they absolutely love being coached by him, and they develop holistically under his guidance.

St Helena Secondary College began with a strong sporting tradition in 1984.

The St Helena Sports Academy aims to develop skills in our students that will encourage lifelong learning, allowing them to connect and interact with the real world as active and responsible global citizens. Upon completion of the program students will not only have developed as an athlete, but as a well-rounded individual with options, dignity and purpose.

Students involved in the Netball Academy will participate in four sessions per fortnight, held before school hours.

This is a co-curricular program that is additional to the standard curriculum program. The sessions will focus on:

  • Technical Skill Development
  • Tactical and Strategic Development
  • Strength and ConditioningInjury Prevention
  • Match Preparation
  • Recovery

Swimming sports were held from 1985 and while students participated in a range of competitive sports in those first years, the Tennis team excelled.

Today the school’s commitment to sport remains resolute as the associated activities contribute significantly to the physical, mental and social growth of our students.

It is through the college sport program that many students develop an active lifestyle commitment along with the skills, attributes, character strengths and disciplines that serve them well for a lifetime and open up a world of social and recreational enjoyment.

We value and celebrate participation, sportsmanship, camaraderie and school spirit. As always, one’s personal best is enough.

House System/Community Engagement

The House System is a foundation tradition that over the school’s history has been a highly effective way to foster student wellbeing, social growth and school connectedness.

In 2013/14 a comprehensive consultative review of the system led by a dedicated committee of students and staff resulted in the establishment of four new Houses in 2015.
