St Helena Secondary College is quite an outstanding school. Its students perform above expected level in the VCE and VET and continued high demand for places at the school reflect a community perception of the quality of this school. It has the capacity to take students to the highest levels of academic achievement and at the same time, has a focus on the needs of those with less academic aspirations. The school is very strongly led by the Principal, Karen Terry, who has gathered and nurtured a leadership team which is a model of effective distributed leadership. The school is highly organised, pays attention to detail and is thorough and professional in all that it does. The reviewer visited most of the College’s classrooms and found them quiet and focussed with an ethos of involvement and achievement. In all ways it is a high performing school.
