SPORT

‘Every person, every classroom, every day.’

St Helena Secondary College began with a strong sporting tradition in 1984.

Year 7
Elsie
This is an accepting school.
The teachers have been lovely and are so helpful.
I’m in a band and do volleyball, athletics and swimming. Doing these activities I got to meet people from other year levels which was great. You get to work as a team and listen to others – it’s the only way to get the results you want.
My maths teacher encourages independence but I know I can ask for help when I need it.
To dare to be excellent is to take opportunities and try new things. I took up clarinet and volleyball this year.

Swimming sports were held from 1985 and while students participated in a range of competitive sports in those first years, the Tennis team excelled.

Today the school’s commitment to sport remains resolute as the associated activities contribute significantly to the physical, mental and social growth of our students.

It is through the college sport program that many students develop an active lifestyle commitment along with the skills, attributes, character strengths and disciplines that serve them well for a lifetime and open up a world of social and recreational enjoyment.

We value and celebrate participation, sportsmanship, camaraderie and school spirit. As always, one’s personal best is enough.

House System/Community Engagement

The House System is a foundation tradition that over the school’s history has been a highly effective way to foster student wellbeing, social growth and school connectedness.

In 2013/14 a comprehensive consultative review of the system led by a dedicated committee of students and staff resulted in the establishment of four new Houses in 2015.
