Enrolment Criteria
St Helena Secondary College has an ‘Enrolment Ceiling’, which means we are limited in the number of students we can accommodate and families in our school zone must be prioritised.
The Department’s Placement Policy indicates that where there are insufficient places at a school for all students who seek entry, students are enrolled in the following priority order:
Criteria 1
: Students for whom the school is the zone government school
Proof of permanent residence inside our school zone is required.
Criteria 2:
Sibling Rights
Students with a sibling at the same permanent residence who are attending the school at the same time, if positions are available.
Criteria 3: Where the Regional Director has restricted the enrolment, students who reside nearest the school
Criteria 4: Specific Curriculum Grounds
Students seeking enrolment on specific curriculum grounds from outside our zone can complete a Specific Curriculum Grounds form (in addition to the Proof of Residence form).
Applications must demonstrate the significant educational benefit the applicant would gain at St Helena Secondary College compared to the school at which they have right of entry.
Please note, due to expected high enrolment demand inside our school zone and based on sibling rights, it is important to carefully consider a second and third school preference on your Placement form, and ensure St Helena Secondary College is ranked as your highest preference if you are applying under this criteria.
Criteria 5: Nearest residential address outside of our school zone
The school will assess the enrolment request in line with the Department’s Placement Policy and against capacity.
All other students outside our school zone will be considered in order of proximity (closeness) from their home to St Helena Secondary College.
Criteria 6: In exceptional circumstances, compassionate grounds
The Placement Policy recognises there are exceptional circumstances where a student may be unable to attend their designated neighbourhood school, or where on compassionate grounds, the student should be offered a place at another
public school.
Applications for enrolment on compassionate grounds are considered by the enrolling school, per the Department’s Placement Policy
Proof Of Residence
All applicants in priority groups 1 and 3 (above) are required to provide a completed ‘Proof of Residence’ form and copies of the following as evidence of their permanent residential address:
Current Utilities Bill AND Rates Notice
or Lease Agreement (min 12 months) AND Parent’s Driver’s License.
